Cross Country Running Stars
On Saturday October 25th, Fairview’s Cross Country Team will be competing once again in the Cross Country State Championship. Last year the girls’ and boys’ varsity team placed 4th and 18th place, respectively. This year, they hope to improve.
“We’re going to get 3rd this year, for sure. We are way better this year because we have way faster runners, like Preston [Cates], Jacob [Naber], Adam [Lund], and Emil [Graff]. They’re going to kill it,” said sophomore Zach Morrissey.
In these meets, Arapahoe Invite, Centaurus Invite, Liberty Bell Invite, Broomfield Invite, Pat Patten Invite League Champs, the team has steadily been improving. The girls’ varsity team averages 19 minutes and 42 seconds and the boys’ 16 minutes 42 seconds.
A notable standout for the boys’ varsity team is senior Preston Cates. His times improved from 17:40:00 at the Arapahoe Invite to 16:06:00, at their final meet before regionals. A notable standout for the girls’ varsity team is sophomore Maya Browning, who has kept up with a time of 19:35:00.
“Our hardest meet thus far was probably Arapahoe Warrior Invitational. That was our slowest of all races, due to the fact that we had two river crossings in the middle of the race,” said Cates.
The post season boys’ varsity team includes: Adam Lund, Greg Lund, Emil Graff, Zach Morrissey, Preston Cates, Omar Ridinger, Skylar Sherman and Jacob Naber.
The girls’ varsity team is made up of: Maya Browning, Zetta Mason, Josie Russell, Tia Beggan, Sarah King, Haley Leader, Sadie Cotton, Kelly Gilbert, Tatjana Kunz and Hannah Freeman.
The Fairview team has been working hard to advance to this stage in the competition, so come support your fellow Knights this Saturday at 10am-2pm at Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs.
