Fairview Mock Trial Goes to Regionals

By Alex Ray in Student News

By beating Peak to Peak, Denver School of the Arts, and Boulder High, Fairview’s mock trial team earned a trip to the regional mock trial competition that is set to take place on February 21st and 22nd. According to sophomore Ari Groobman, a witness in the regional competition, “[In mock trial], we’re given a court case that’s fake. We then develop a whole trial around it.” In these make-believe trials, students play the roles of the different witnesses and lawyers on both the defending and prosecuting sides of the case, with a professional lawyer playing the role of the judge. Ahead of this year’s regional competition, moral is high within the mock trial team led by Mr. Lewis. Groobman says “we’re feeling pretty good. We placed first [in state] last year but we’re still working very hard because we know Boulder will come back with a vengeance.” Regarding Fairview’s chances of progressing this year, lead prosecutor Tom Roberts says “I’m an optimist. I think we have the capacity to make it past state.” Senior Gia Nyhuis also says “I hope we can make it at’s our ultimate goal!”
