Fall Sports Predictions
As we are in the midst of the fall sports season and the action is heating up, we asked Principal Don Stensrud for his opinion on the fall sports and compared his predictions to those of our own. Mr. Stensrud predicts that most of the fall sports teams will finish in the top 10 in their league and have strong chances at winning state.
Royal Banner: The Royal Banner Staff believes that our football team will have a good but not state championship winning season. Our offense will bring some serious firepower as Senior QB Jake Willemsen will lead a talented group. We have four returning wide receivers headlined by Seniors David McWilliams and Tommy Wakefield. Our defense is very young and will need players to step up. We only have three returning starters so we will have to rely on our offense greatly to lead us to success. We trust Coach Tom McCartney to help guide us to another good year. We predict that we’ll finish as a top five team this year.
Stensrud: Mr. Stensrud also agrees with our views on the football team. “Our offense is explosive but we need guys to step up on defense. We’re in a tough league so it is hard to win but I think we’ll finish top five.”
Royal Banner: We predict that this season that the boys cross country team will be strong contenders to win state or place either 2nd or 3rd. We also believe that girls cross country are likely to finish somewhere in the top 5. The practices have been looking good so far and we have always been good.
Stensrud: “The guys have a chance at state and the girls will finish top five.”
Royal Banner: The tennis team has always been consistently good. The team is very strong with players like Tom Melville, Devin Harper, and Graham Blanco playing singles. We have a very strong doubles lineup and should really do well this year. The team is really deep and has some young, promising players. The RB Staff thinks that our tennis team will finish top three.
Stensrud: Mr. Stensrud predicts the same result. “I believe our tennis team will finish top three.”
Royal Banner: Boys soccer has a really good chance at winning state this year after a heartbreaking loss last season to Mountain Vista. They are ranked number 3 right now and we believe that seniors Ryan Houseman and Stone Streeter will lead the way to a state championship this season.
Stensrud: “We are going to be a state contender.”
Royal Banner: We predict that this year volleyball will make its way back to a state title run and finish in the top 3. Senior captains Audrey Cheng, Caroline Schmiedeler, and Christine Schmiedeler will lead the knights to an attempt at the title.
Stensrud: “They will flat out win state”
Royal Banner: We believe that past history will continue to lead Marching Band to a run at the state title this year and they will have a strong chance at finishing in the top 3. Senior Kim Berg (drum major) will lead the way to another championship run.
Stensrud: Stensrud believes that Marching Band will continue their success and similarly to last year finish in the top 3.
Royal Banner: We are second place in the league currently and that is what we expect. We the staff think that we can contend for states. Our team is talented and is good enough to be the best.
Stensrud: Stensrud also agrees that our golf team can really contend. “We can be a legitimate state contender.”
Royal Banner: The softball team has been a nice surprise so far. They are 6-3 and look to be improving. We are expecting a big improvement from last year but no state title.
Stensrud: Stensrud also agrees that this season has been a very nice surprise. He likes the new coach, Sarah Kosorok and the new attitude.
