Fall Sports Recap
Over one month ago, the Royal Banner Staff and Principal Stensrud gave each of our predictions for the various fall sports. Some of our predictions were accurate and some others were a little bit off. For the most part, our Fairview Knights across the board did well in almost every sport. Both Stensrud and the Royal Banner were reasonably accurate in forecasting how each sport performed.
The Fairview Football team lost in the first round of the state tournament to Regis Jesuit. It was a sad way to end a good season. The games always seemed to be thrilling and exciting and filled with many highs and many lows. There were many great moments like blowing out Boulder High. However, there were some disappointing ones like blowing a 23 point lead to Mullen. Both Mr. Stensrud and the Royal Banner were correct in our prediction of a good, but not state-championship winning season. Mr. Stensrud projected the football team to finish top-five, however we didn’t perform as well as Mr. Stensrud had hoped.
Cross country had a rather disappointing season compared to what we and Mr. Stensrud predicted. Mr. Stensrud thought that the guys could win state but in reality they finished fourteenth out of twenty-three teams at state. He thought the girls would finish top five while they actually finished eleventh out of twenty-two teams. We thought that both teams would finish in the top five but as previously mentioned they didn’t live up to the expectations.
This tennis season was another success for Fairview. We finished second at state losing to Cherry Creek. We had two all-5A players in Devin Harper and David Zhao. Mr. Stensrud was correct on this prediction as were we as we both thought that the team would finish top three and they finish second at state.
Boys soccer had a great season and made it all the way to the Sweet 16 but was eliminated in a disappointing 5-0 defeat to Broomfield. It was a good year but a sad way to end it. Mr. Stensrud was a little too excited for the fortunes of our soccer team this year as he predicted they’d be a state contender.
Volleyball had an excellent season and suffered a devastating loss to Mountain Vista in pool play of the state tournament. Mr. Stensrud was off with his prediction as he thought like many others that our team would capture a state title. We also were too hopeful for volleyball as we thought that they would finish top three.
Marching Band finished third and state for a fourth year in a row. They seem to be incredibly consistent and always finish third. It is a great year and hopefully they can be first next year. This was one of the most accurate predictions he made as he thought that they would continue their success and finish top three.
Golf had a pretty solid season. Daniel Pearson was once again on another level as he dominated this year and finished fourth in state. Stensrud correctly said we’d be a state contender, and we were a state contender.
Softball improved this year after a disappointing season last year and the program has several high hopes with the new coaching staff. At the beginning of the season Stensrud was excited about the new coaching staff he believes the fresh and positive attitude this year will continue to carry on to future seasons.
