Find Interest in Pinterest

By Katie Steen in Arts & Culture

Pinterest (pronounced to rhyme with interest) is a group of virtual bulletin boards on which you can “pin” all of your interests in cooking, crafts, fashion, media and more. The mission of the Pinterest founders is to connect people all over the world through their shared tastes and interests.

When a friend invites you to Pinterest (it’s kind of like an exclusive club in that way), you can set up multiple boards that are categorized differently. For example, someone might have a board called “My Favorite Places and Spaces” and another board called “My Fashion.” The site instantly sets you up with a few generic boards, but you can personalize them as you wish.

As you are cruising the Internet looking for great recipes or adorable scarves, you can use your handy “Pin It” button in your bookmarks bar and pin any picture from the website onto any of your bulletin boards. Boom. It takes about two seconds, and it makes you instantly seem more artistic.

One of the best parts is that when you go back to look for clothes or a cupcake recipe to make, you can simply click on your picture and it will take you back to the website you found it on. It’s essentially a more artistic, well organized way to bookmark sites you want to visit again.

Pinterest also offers a huge collection of cool photography and fun products to browse at your leisure. You can add Facebook friends that also have Pinterest, and you will be able to “like” or “repin” their pictures.

So if you have interest in Pinterest, talk to your friends and find someone who will invite you. If you have an iPhone, definitely download the app as well. Enjoy your pinning!
