Former UCF Student Found Dead in Dormroom

By Elise Maclean in Student News

At 12:20 am on Monday, March 18th, a fire alarm went off at the Tower 1 dormitory of Central Florida University. A former student was found dead in his dorm on an apparent suicide. The student was identified as 30-year-old James Oliver Seevakumaran. Officials reported that he was found beside weapons and a backpack of bombs. Seevakumaran attended Central Florida University from 2010 to 2012 and was in the process of being evicted from his dorm. "While the crime scene processing was under way in that room, we found some notes and some writings that indicated that this was a planned attack," UCF Police Chief Richard Beary told CNN reporters. According to Beary, Seevakumaran perhaps pulled the fire alarm to draw more people out in the open. Police officials believe that Seevakumaran returned to his dorm after pulling the alarm in order to retrieve the weapons. According to Seevakumaran’s roommate, Seevakumaran returned to his room and pointed a weapon at him. The roommate ran into the bathroom and called 911. Upon police arrival, officials found Seevakumaran’s body in the bedroom.
