Knights fall to Horizon in homecoming game, 14-10
The Fairview football team put up a valiant effort on Friday night as they attempted to pull off a W, but in the end they came just short.
The Knights fell behind with just over thirty seconds left in the contest, leading to a final drive that successfully marched down the field to the 23 yard line before quarterback Michael McVenes’ pass sailed in and out of the hands of the intended receiver as time expired.
The Knights were unable to muster any points in the first half, but neither could Horizon. A scoreless first half set up a tense second half, and the Knights drew first blood on a run by Ben Meyer. The Knights stayed in the lead for the rest of the third quarter and most of the fourth quarter, but while clinging to a 10-7 lead Horizon punched in a touchdown with seconds remaining.
At the end, a positive kickoff return put the Knights in good field position, and after a handful of desperately needed completions Fairview found themselves in a position to score a touchdown, trailing by four. But in the end, they could not come away with a victory.
