Restaurant review: Moongate Asian Bistro

By Kali Crossen and Alex Flynn in Arts & Culture

Located on 16th and Pearl, Boulder’s Moongate Asian Bistro serves authentic Thai cuisine. An illuminated purple sign, visible from several blocks away, makes it clearly visible. Moongate is a great choice for anyone who wants to dine inexpensively within a limited amount of time. This makes it a great option for Fairview students who want a quick lunch between classes.

Right when you enter the spacious dining area, friendly waiters immediately provide service, and the staff’s accommodating demeanor allows you to feel at ease on any hectic school day. A very thorough menu, separated into sections according to popularity and type of dish, will be given to you to choose your meal from. The menu has a variety of noodle and rice dishes, pork, chicken, duck or beef bowls, vegetarian options and, of course, delicious starters. The crispy spring rolls or the savory sesame seaweed salad are sensational appetizers to begin any meal.

If you’re looking for a healthy vegetarian meal, the Buddha’s Feast is a popular and a very tasty choice. The dish consists of carrots, mushrooms, broccoli, and cabbage all sautéed in a heavy brown sauce, and is served along with tofu and plentiful sticky rice. Stylish garnishes like orange-slice crescents line the plate and the heart shaped rice bowl make this plate pleasing to the eye.

After you’ve finished your delicious meal, you can relax as much as you like — keeping in mind that your next class’s bell could ring any second — while listening to the upbeat indie music playing in the background. Moongate’s colorful glowing lights, abstract sculptures, and open kitchen make its atmosphere warm and unique. And when the check arrives (along with two fortune cookies), you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the fair pricing. Overall, we feel that you’ll be very satisfied with what Moongate has to offer, and we recommend that you stop by and try their food sometime.
