Volleyball falls to Bruins, Rebels
Fairview volleyball suffered back-to-back setbacks, as the Knights lost in 3-1 affairs to state powers Cherry Creek and Columbine on consecutive evenings.
The Knights hosted Cherry Creek on Tuesday night. After falling behind in a close first set, Fairview draws level with the Bruins after taking the second set in a convincing fashion. Creek responded by drubbing the Knights' spikers in the third set, 25-14. The decisive fourth set was a close affair after Fairview fell behind early. FHS rattled off seven straight points to close the gap to three before letting the momentum and the match fall through their fingers.
On Wednesday evening, Fairview traveled to Littleton to take on the Columbine Rebels. After dropping the first two sets, Fairview took the third by a score of 25-14. Once again, FHS failed to keep momentum on their side of the net, as Columbine took the fourth set and the match.
After losing to Columbine, Fairview falls to 0-3 on the season. The Knights are without Nicole Edelman, one of the top high school seniors in the nation, who is nursing a back injury. Fairview is expected to be without Edelman for the next three-to-four weeks. Next up for Brooke Simmons' squad is a home tilt against Greeley West on Tuesday at 6:30.
