Scout Painter

“It’s just, I don’t know, I just feel like I set really high standards that the minor things feel like failure to me. I’m just really scared of disappointing myself and disappointing others.”

Scout Painter (11) is just one of the remarkable students that make up the student body. There are moments that define us, and Painter, though just a junior, has experienced a lot. One such experience was her medical internship in Peru.

“It was a medical internship, so we really got to see the workings of the hospitals and the clinics and we went to these rural towns… I think the moments that stuck out to me the most was [when] we went to these elementary schools to run basic medical tests just cause the local hospitals just couldn’t do it… it was just such an experience to really talk to these kids from another country, and even though their lives are so different from ours, they still played tag at recess.”

The future remains uncertain and Scout expresses her excitement to see the turnout.

“I think I’m kind of looking forward to, I don’t know, kind of seeing how the world changes. Cause it feels like we’re in such a fundamental place right now where a lot of things are building up, like global warming and politics and just, everything. And I’m just kind of interested to see what’s gonna happen cause it feels like we’re at such a unique point in history.”

People can often become fixated on one aspect of a person; however, it is necessary to remember that we are all just humans.

“I’m just kind of scared of like, I don’t know, letting myself down cause then I feel like I won’t be worth as much, if I don’t do as well in school or as well in tech or as well in everything.”
