With Valentine’s day having passed, people were bound to have made mistakes, which may even lead to them getting rejected. So, here are 10 things you should, and shouldn’t do to help you secure your crush next year.

Make sure to buy them something like candy, chocolates, flowers, stuffed animals or even just a note showing your appreciation for them. Little things like that make a huge difference in swaying someone’s heart.

The last thing you want to do is be nervous or uncertain. Confidence is a great virtue and will boost your chances with your special someone. What won’t is stuttering when asking them to be your valentine or having a bad posture because you’re scared.

Find out their interests or things they like. People appreciate when you notice things about them and love talking about their passions. So a great thing to do is to compliment their interests and talk with them about things they like.

Don’t Hesitate. You never know whether someone else is going to make their move before you, so you want to make sure you’re the first. Think about how embarrassing it would be to work up a bunch of courage, just to realize you didn’t act soon enough.

Use mutuals. If you have mutual friends with your crush that you trust, it’s always a good idea to find out about them through their friends to know more about them and come up with the best strategy to approach them. Just make sure that they wouldn’t rat you out and expose you!

Look your best. It’s essential to have a good impression when shooting your shot. Dress in a clean outfit, smell good, and prepare your hair well. Good looks usually bring people in before personality.

Don’t be someone you aren’t. It’s useless to not act like you normally would. All it does is lead people on. Just be yourself and trust in your own ability to do well.

Be Creative. A funny message is always a good idea to be different and charm your person of interest.

Don’t use a messenger. Using somebody else to ask for you will be interpreted as you being scared to ask in person. And that will make your offer less likely to be accepted.

Don’t take it too personally. If they say yes, that’s great! But if they don’t, you shouldn’t think too much about it and don’t let rejection affect how you see yourself.

With all of this advice, it’ll be much harder to get turned down. Hopefully these tips have set you up for success, have a great Valentine’s Day next year and good luck with your crush!
