Starting sometime next school year, students of BVSD high schools will have to scan their Student ID before walking into every classroom. Otherwise, students will not be allowed to enter the classroom. Classroom doors must be shut at all times, and if anyone tries to get around this new policy, they will be suspended for a period of time or worse. There will be cameras outside of every room, and everything will be captured. This comes after all of the concerns and safety threats in the past year.
There has been lots of backlash regarding this new policy, and some are feeling very afraid and unprepared for this, especially because most students do not remember their IDs. An anonymous 9th grader told us that, “I usually don’t bring my ID to school, and honestly I don’t even know where mine is. I mostly just wait for someone to show up so that I can enter the building, so now I might be cooked”.
Other students are optimistic about this change, including this anonymous 10th grader who explained that, “I feel like this is a refreshing change for the school. This can make us feel safe and secure for all students and staff alike”.
Some teachers also have opinions on this, including this teacher who thinks that, “This might actually work, this will keep kids focused, without these distractions of other kids wandering by, or anything like that. One issue could be that the new excuse could be ‘I don’t have my ID’”.
This news comes just weeks after rumors of ID’s being checked every time students enter the building.
With this update comes the fact that ID pins will be changed weekly. If students always have their IDs on them, someone can steal someone else’s lunch number, so this rule should prevent this and other misfortunes when it comes to identification at Fairview High School.
Look out for these upcoming changes.
